Guide Profiles

Chip Rogers: Owner / Guide
I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and started going fishing with my Dad before I can even remember. My earliest memories are fishing in San Fransico Bay for surf perch and striper bass, and catching crabs off the piers. I moved to Colorado in the fall of '89 for a ski season. After a season of teaching children ski lessons I got hooked up with Dale Fields of Summit Guides. He showed me the fishing opportunities of Summit County and taught me thebasics of Fly Fishing. I have been addicted to it ever since. (YES I have played "HOOKIE" from work to go fish a "few" times ;-)
I have been invloved with teaching different sports to children and adults for most of my life and have found no greater JOY than watching someone light up when they hook into a fish. I look forward to helping anyone enjoy the fun of fishing in the Rocky Mountains.

Kelly Rogers : Owner / Manager
I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. As a child I fished Lake Erie with my Grandpa on his bass boat. I moved to Summit County in '95 to ski and have lived here ever since. As an adult I had not fished until I met my husband, Chip, who introduced me to Fly Fishing. I am still in the learning process but I am loving it. I get out to fish in between work and raising our son Eli. I am avidly promoting opportunities for women and children in the sport of Fly Fishing.
Check out our upcoming womens' clinics and family fish days.

Eli Rogers
Eli was born in June of '06 here in Summit County. He touched his first trout at the age of 11 months and caught his first fish at 2 years old (a 14" Brookie). He loves his Spiderman rod over the Batman rod right now,(probably because he caught most of his fish with Spiderman.) He goes nuts over feeding the ducks and fish in the pond right in front of our shop. "Sssshin'", as he calls it, is one of his favorite things to be doing for the 10 minutes his attention span allows.

Ray DeCamillis
Ray was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He has been fly fishing for about 15 years, but really got "hooked" the past 5 years. Ray started out large mouth bass fishing in Kentucky but made the switch when he moved to Colorado. Fly fishing for bass in Florida and Kentucky has now taken a back seat to the trout streams and rivers of Colorado. The Snake River at Keystone is his favorite place to cast his favorite fly -- sorry, it's a secret -- but I will say -- IT IS GREEN. Being patient with the clients and his experience with where these trout are located and their choice of fly, will make a great day in the Rockies.

Lou Popiolkowski
Lou was hatched in Steeler County, Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania. He has been fishing for 48 years. A retired school teacher of 24 years, Lou and his wife Lori moved to Summit County in 2000. Since then, he has switched from Walleye fishing to fly fishing and never looked back. His favorite places to fish are the tributaries of Lake Erie, the Blue River and the Colorado. Over the years Lou has enjoyed all types of fishing. Some destinations include Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico and Florida. Lou's knowledge, sense of humor and patience will make for a memorable and fun experience.

Dale Fields
Dale Fields is a fourth generation Coloradan whose family has been established here in the high country since 1873. He is a third generation guide and local historian. Dale has held the Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Master Flyfishing Instructor recognition since 1994 and is the creator of many successful and unkown local fly patterns. He has guided in Summit County for the past twenty five years and lives here with his wife Kate. His daughter Brandy lives in Colorado Springs. Dale taught both of them to fly fish and both women have guided fly fishing professionally. Dale has many other interests, he is a Level III PSIA/AASI Certified Ski Instructor, alpinist, climber, snowshoer, hunter, competitive rifle and pistol shooter, archer, horseman, and racer of motor cars, motorcycles and bicycles. He is also a blues musician, and a gourmet cook with a penchant for single malt scotches. Dale Fields is available for fly fishing float trips on a limited basis, advance booking is required.

Troy Hawks
Growing up in central Wisconsin, on most weekends my dad and I were out on our cottage lake by sunrise, trolling for walleyes, northern and musky. He'd man the rods and sip from his coffee thermos, while I steered the boat and kept a close eye on the depth finder, my feet barely able to touch the deck. I moved to Summit County in 1992 and worked as a ski instructor at Keystone, where I met Summit Fly Fishing founder Dale Fields. It wasn't long after that I put away my spin casting gear and picked up a fly rod instead. I've been guiding since 2000, and have had plenty of fish in the net, but it's the people and places that I remember most. It's easy to be intimidated by this sport, and to make it out to be more complicated than it really is. Dale has offered me a wealth of great advice over the years, but I'll never forget his often-repeated motto: "It's just fishing." Whether you land twelve fish, one fish, or spend the day caught up in bushes and untangling knots, it's still time well spent; time that you didn't think about your regular job and were able to forget about life for a while. Afterall, there's always next time. It's just fishing.

Steven Chavez
I'm a Colorado native. After finishing college at the University of Colorado-Boulder, I decided to take a year off before going to grad school. Fifteen years later, I'm still up here in the mountains. My passion for the outdoors have kept me up here. I've been a ski patroller and guide at Keystone for almost thirteen years now. I also work as a cat skiing guide with Keystone Adventure Tours. I like jobs that allow me to work outdoors and interact with interesting people.

Carly Griffith

I was born in Grand Junction, Co the only daughter of an avid fisherman who dragged me flyfishing all over this great state before I was old enough to walk.  I used to roll my eyes at my dad on the river when he would beg to fish just one more hour as the sun was setting and we had been fishing since dawn.  Now, as an avid fly fisherwoman myself, I've begun to notice the same eye rolling coming from my husband after the time to call it a day on the river has come and gone and I'm begging for just one more hour on the river! I gave birth to my first child this past April, a son-Atticus Mac. It's his first summer on this earth and he and I (and grandpa) have fished 11 mile canyon, the Blue, the Platte, the Snake, and the Arkansas rivers. So far, I haven't noticed Atticus rolling his eyes when I ask if I can fish just a little bit longer, but then again, he is only 3 months old! However, I think that he intuitively understands the joy of fly-fishing already and he whole heartedly approves of catching that late evening hatch when the fish are in a feeding frenzy! Perhaps a fly-fishing dynasty is born!
