Colorado Fly Fishing Introduction

Back to Articles Homepage

This being the first article for the web page, I start this with the hopes that it will be an interactive forum for fishing information geared for all anglers.  Please remember that all of the advice given here is for anglers, given to you by anglers, so take all advice with a grain of salt, suspect all stories to be a bit “fishy”, and all sweet spot locations to be within a 10-mile radius of where they “kind of” remember where they were.

Our goal at Summit Fly Fishing is to teach you the skills involved for you to be more successful with fly-fishing.  We try to keep it simple so that when you are standing in a river with fish rising all around and not one will take what you are presenting to them, you might remember a couple of our tips to help you stick a fish & that the secret to any kind of fishing lies in how you hold your mouth.  ?
You may notice that I refer to all of us as anglers.  We all LOVE to fish.  We may do it by different means, it all just boils down to the preparation, casting (presentation) and hopefully catching the targeted fish.   I hope that through the articles that we can all learn more about what we like about our type of fishing and explore other ways of chasing fish.

As you know, we are a Fly Fishing Guide Service and Retail Shop (located at Keystone Resort in Colorado) we are also well versed on different types of fishing here in the Rocky Mountains.  (such as spin, ice & bait fishing) I, just as most of our guides, started on a pond or lake as a bait fisherman and moved on to the, 5’ ultra light spinning rod and after a few bazillion casts and learning how to fish a river, took up fly fishing.  I was lucky enough to have someone show me how much fun chasing fish with a fly rod in my hand could be.  We would love to share what we have learned with you and your fishing buddies.

Feel free to email us (guides@summitflyfish.com) with any questions or comments you would like us to add to the page or help us to improve on its relevance to you and the fish you like to pursue. We will have a primary focus of Trout fishing in the Rocky Mountain Region, but we will never turn away any fish talk.
