"I was staying at Keystone Resort" and received a coupon for a free 1 hour "Intro to Fly Fishing" clinic at the Summit Fly Fishing shop. There were 15 other guests of all ages joining in. Dale, Ray and Chip took us over to a section of the pond ,located in front of the shop. We broke up into smaller groups and we were shown how to make a "Roll cast" an "Overhead" cast, a few basic knots and the types of "flies" that are used in this area. After 15 minutes or so the guides tied on some dry flies for us and we were able to cast to some of the many fish in the pond. After a few more minutes the screams of excitement echoed of the lodge buildings as each of us had opportunities to hook a fish. Many were hooked with a few of them landed. Mine being a 12" Brook trout. Not only were the fish hooked, but many of the others in the group, along with myself became "hooked" on fishing with a fly rod. ( I should have done this at the beginning of the week )
Next trip to Keystone, (summer '09) I will continue my learning of how to fly fish with Summit Fly Fishing. Can't wait to get in the river again.

I have a confession. I was really nervous to try fly fishing. As a lifelong fisherman, I have seen people fly fish, and I always wanted to try, but it seemed like it was much harder than the type of fishing I was used to doing. My decision to learn, and to learn from Chip at Summit Fly Fishing was the best decision I could have made. Not only did Chip help me with picking the right type of gear I would need, he helped me with my casting technique and selecting the right type of flies the fish would take. Chip has a very disarming nature, which really helped alleviate my anxiety, and allow me to have fun while I was learning. What was apparent was his knowledge of the rivers, the fish and the gear. I highly recommend both beginners and experts taking a trip from Summit Fly Fishing. There is no substitution for local knowledge, whether it is what fly to tie, where the fish are or even what restaurant to eat at or what ski run to take; Chip and the whole crew at Summit Fly Fishing can provide that knowledge. Needless to say, I am “hooked”. I cannot wait to return to Summit Fly Fishing and take another trip.
